Three Fundamental Truths

For my time in New York, I have three intentions; to be fully present, to see the city as more than a tourist, and to be brave as a small fish in a big pond.

The first goal is always something I’ve struggled with. I’ve always wanted to see life through a screen. Most of my big life events were experienced from behind a video camera. I don’t have the best memory, so a part of me thinks that my documentation of each day on film will help me remember it better. But everything that I find in my photo library is something I’ve already forgotten, and my most poignant memories exist only in my head.

The second is connected to the first- I don’t want to spend every second of my life taking pictures that exist by the dozen on the internet already. I want to interact with the people in a meaningful way, not just asking for directions back to the hotel.

The third is a personal goal: I’m always nervous in large crowds of people. But my hope for New York is that I can learn how to navigate in crowded places in an almost-comfortable way.
