My Skills & Strengths

Input

People talented in the Input theme have a need to collect and archive. They may accumulate information, ideas, artifacts, or relationships.

I love collecting fun facts and bits of knowledge, as is evident in the first paragraph of my About Me page! Collecting (and organizing) information is part of what drove me to organize this portfolio the way I have: I wanted to have a place to display my collection of precious presentations and academic writings.

Empathy

People talented in the Empathy theme can sense other people’s feelings by imagining themselves in others’ lives or situations.

This is a skill I put into use nearly every day, especially when helping students as a Psychology Department Learning Assistant. I’ll be able to use this to help foster meaningful relationships with my future students after graduate school, as well.

Individualization

People talented in the Individualization theme are intrigued with the unique qualities of each person. They have a gift for figuring out how different people can work together productively.

This skill absolutely comes into play in my leadership roles on campus. For instance, as the President of Agnes Scott’s Chapter of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology, much of my work involves knowing who can excel in completing certain tasks, and which members would work well together on various projects.

Learning

People talented in the Learning theme have a great desire to learn and want to continuously improve. The process of learning, rather than the outcome, excites them.

It was impossible for me to narrow down my interests in my first few years at Agnes Scott, as I just wanted to learn everything. Thus, at various points in time, I planned on being a Mathematics and Psychology double major, took courses on the pre-veterinary track, and declared minors in biology, chemistry, German studies, and music. I realized my junior year that what I craved was learning specifically, and knew then that a career in research would be perfect for me.

Intellection

People talented in the Intellection theme are characterized by their intellectual activity. They are introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions

In my mind, this strength is the culmination of all my other strengths. I love the process of learning and collecting the new information I have learned, and afterwards having discussions with others about this information and figuring out the best way to convey it in a respectful, meaningful way. This is part of why I particularly enjoy presenting research, because it allows me to do just that.
