About My Portfolio

Purpose

This portfolio is a way for me to share some of my most meaningful projects and experiences with you, the viewer!

BACKGROUND

I am interested in the social aspects of sustainability and how they affect efforts to mitigate climate change and respond to ecological needs. I have a special interest in food, agriculture, and the waste stream process.

EXPLANATION

This portfolio is a visual and written exploration of the intersection between Sociology/Anthropology and Sustainability. During my time at Agnes Scott, I have been able to explore this connection in many ways- from academic papers, and research analysis, to reflective papers and group projects.

My biggest project was a cross-curricular, collaborative project focused on diverting food waste in a local middle school’s cafeteria. There are multiple posts in this portfolio that highlight and explain the project. These posts can be found under Systems of Food > Food and Schools > Renfroe Food Waste Project.

I also had to opportunity to travel to and explore Chile for two weeks in the summer of 2019. This experience has been very beneficial for me, and it allowed me to better understand other cultures, places, and ideas in an immersive environment. These posts can be found under Communication > Visual> Chile Trip.

These two experiences, as well as my time at Agnes Scott more generally, has allowed me to hone in on my interests. I am using this portfolio to highlight these connections that I have made.

GOALS

I am also interested in how my studies and projects can be presented in creative ways. I think that this is necessary in order to effect change and in order to work toward a more sustainable and environmentally collaborative/connected future. The various posts in this portfolio highlight this in different ways, from presentations to collages, maps to audio clips, papers to photos.

I strive to show the connections that I have made throughout my life and studies in this portfolio in unique and intriguing ways.

This is something that I have worked to do while at Agnes and will continue to strive for after I graduate as well.
