Comment on Listening to Sarah Emerson by Nell Ruby http://astern.agnesscott.org/methods/listening-to-sarah-emerson/#comment-107 Mon, 10 Dec 2018 01:46:45 +0000 http://astern.agnesscott.org/?p=803#comment-107 Sounds like that talk was helpful and useful–and so smart to ask her to come look at your paintings. Surprising what a difference a ground of color makes! The ground itself then has life and delivers some atmosphere, vs. the sterility of white. Flesh comes forward…

On my trip I visited G. O’keefe’s home in Abique, NM (make sure you put it on your list when you go on your epic art trip!), and got to tour the inside. Two things of note for that: every windowsill was filled with rocks, gathered and placed from her many walks (it’s hard not to collect rocks out there, they are so simple, available, wondrous–like little paintings by the power of the universe…), the other thing of course, were the large rectangular windows in her bedroom and studio, which framed the beautiful landscape of mountains. It’s easy to be seduced out there, and I can see the alure of staying forever. Thank you for coming to my talk and taking the time to carefully listen, and graciously write.

Also, excited that you’re going to read Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Me too–we can have a book group.

This is so wonderful to read and so descriptive of an alive person. Thank you for putting this into words and sharing it. When I was a kid, many many years ago, Hair was the “it” play. I can’t help but sing it to myself right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_zaSKZks1A

Loved reading this description! especially that you spent “a breathlessly playful three hours”. I always know life is good when I lose track of time.
